Robert Parker: In 2010, Frühlingsplätzchen is excellent
"This is really a year, chez Schonlebers, for Fruhlingsplatzchen as a site to shine", David Schildknecht, Robert Parker's taster for Germany says. Frühlingsplätzchen has not only won the internal vineyard comparison, but also made it to the top of Germany. With 96 points obtained the Großes Gewächs Frühlingsplätzchen is the best dry Riesling of the year sharing the first place with Keller's Abtserde and followed closely by our Halenberg (95 points). The same rating of 95 pts was given to Halenberg -R- as well as Frühlingsplätzchen Spätlese.
We are delighted about this wonderful "Christmas present"!

Best riesling 2001
"Today, everybody knows that Halenberg is one of the greatest riesling vineyards in Germany. This is all thanks to Werner Schönleber, who, year after year, delights us with his magnificent Halenberg wines", Gerhard Eichelmann, the author of the great German Wine Guide Eichelmann 2012, writes.
Again in this guide book, our wines show excellent performance, which justifies the classification as a "world class, international top winery".
In the thrilling "10-Years-After-Tasting" of the best dry Riesling wines from 2001, Halenberg Auslese trocken (the predecessor of "Großes Gewächs") obtained outstanding results.

It was given the title of "Best Riesling 2001".

Grape harvest successfully completed
We have never finished the harvest so early as this year for a long time. Because of the very early flowering, the growth of the grape vines was still 2 weeks ahead of the years' average even after the cool summer. Thus, the main harvest began as early as September 26th this year.
We have brought in very ripe and aromatic grapes. The best quality grapes were golden yellow, interspersed in some parts with perfect botrytis (noble rot), which gave us the opportunity to select Beerenauslese as well as Trockenbeerenauslese.

Fire and ice
We have had a turbulent week. On Wednesday, the vines suffered from (late) frost. Around two hectares of our vineyards were partly heavily damaged by the frost. It is totally uncertain, whether any harvest can be expected in these areas.
And as if it was not bad enough, it was only a day later that a fire occurred on one of the best portions of Halenberg. A spark during the mulching of the remaining grass was sufficient to set the dried up straw on fire. Around 200 vines were burnt by the flames. We can only hope that they survived. An irony of fate.

Robert Parker: 98 pts for Trockenbeerenauslese
Only few wines could fascinate David Schildknecht (taster of Robert Parker) so much as our 2009 Halenberg Trockenbeerenauslese: "The combination of textural creaminess and overall opulence with near weightless buoyancyis absolutely uncanny. Rating: 98"
With 96 pts obtained once again one of the 5 best dry riesling of the vintage: 2009 Halenberg GG. "An unforgettable purity of fruit, transparency to mineral and floral nuances and levity..."
Further six wines have been given 93 up to 95 points.
Thank you very much indeed!
