Excellent 2006 wines are waiting to be bottled
As our stocks of 2005 wines are now really about to run out, our image concerning the bottling of the vintage 2006 becomes gradually clearer.
They are already very good to taste, and the estimations of the wine experts sofar coincide with our own. It seems as if we had another incredible vintage in the cellar, which easily matches the quality of the last years. Some were already speculating that this could even exceed them.
With this crazy vintage though, it is more important than in the last years, to choose carefully the winery of your faith. So much luck with the weather we had during the harvest in Monzingen, was not granted everywhere in Germany. God seems to love the Nahe...

The Halenberg "grows"
It is now official: the vine cultivated area on Halenberg will grow by 0,64 Hectares in 2007.
With great efforts, we have finally managed to buy or rent to get this plot together from several owners. The plot is the steepest part of the Halenberg that is characterized by very light soil and enormous thermal convection. Also on the Prussian tax map of vineyards from 1901 it is marked in dark red, which means the best quality!
This first class plot has been left uncultivated for 30 years and totally brushy. Nobody was willing to grow vine on such difficult terrain. Every work must be done by human hands and the harvest will always be small due to the natural conditions. There is only one person in Monzingen, who would saddle oneself with something like this...
We are already looking forward to the first glass - in 2010!

Riesling boom in Italy
The latest issue of the most important Italian wine magazine "Gambero Rosso" (November 2006) features German riesling wines over 35(!) pages. 12 Wineries between Mittelrhein and Pfalz are presented as well as the VDP-Classification "Erste Lage".
About the winery Emrich-Schönleber, they write: "The wines are excellent, they unite character and finesse. Werner Schönleber gave the Grand Crus its identity back."
Gambero Rosso has been publishing together with "Slow Food" the most important wine guide in Italy for 20 years, which is also translated into German and English.

Thanks to the golden October, 2006 with best potential
Relatively early, we completed yesterday - on the 20th of October - this year's harvest. The sunny and warm September and the rain in the first weeks of October resulted in very thin-skinned, fragile grapes, which we brought quickly in the cellar together with our experienced harvesters' team during the truly golden autumn days
However, we had to invest unusually high energy in berry selection, in order to separate few inferior berries from the extremely aromatic grapes of the highest ripeness. It was therefore no easy autumn for us. The quantity of the harvest was even smaller than that of 2005, which was not the largest, but what we have now in our barrels under fermentation justifies very high expectations. With watered mouth, we are now thinking of the first tasting of the young wines next spring.
As it was the case in 1976, the noble rot started in addition during the dry weather. This situation provided us with the great chance to produce wonderful noble rot wines again including Trockenbeerenauslese.
The joy is great in the house of Schönlebers! We are proud of a vintage 2005, in which the unusually strong expressions of mineral characters, vividness and extremely fragile, fine pronounced fruit acid are united.

Fabulous atmosphere at "Wine on the Water"
On July the 1st, the Nahetalente held for the third time the wine and gourmet party "Wine on the Water".
In front of the picturesque Brückenhäuser (=houses on the bridge) in Bad Kreuznach, the King Kameha Club Band contributed to the fabulous atmosphere. Accompanied by delicious food cooked by the four top chefs of the region and of course a perfect selection of wines. Any more desires?

2005 - It has been worthwhile waiting
It is ready at last, the new wine list. The expectations for the vintage 2005 were high - and they were absolutely justified.
The summer, rather dry for our region and warm, was followed by just about so much rain mid September and at the beginning of October that is was sufficient to refresh the vines and their leaves for further work. In-between and afterwards, we had the pure sunshine at pleasant temperatures, which allowed the flavour of the grapes to develop perfectly and gave a boost to the Oechsle-grade. At the same time, the grapes have gone through the process of concentration through evaporation.

Veronica, spring has come!
The first bottles of 2005 vintage are now filled, so that at least the vast gaps in the available dry wines are finally closed. From May on, we will be able to offer you the whole collection again.
At the right time for the beginning of spring, the LENZ (=spring) is with us too, precisely speaking, the LENZ Riesling. A wine just like the spring time. Curious? You'd best try it right away - we would be very happy to help you!

2005 - A top class vintage waiting to be bottled
We were seldom so convinced of the quality of the new vintage at this time of the year. From Gutswein to Grand Crus as well as Trockenbeerenauslese, they are all just impeccable. The wines of 2005 are already showing impressive density and maturity in their flavour. Above all, in the dry wines, the mightiness and elegance have reached the state of unity in the very finest way. Let us look forward to a vintage promising the greatest pleasure!
The first wines will be available at the beginning of May.
