Icy
birthday present
After two not sufficiently cold nights, the Clerk of the Weather had
a pity on us today and gave us the long awaited eiswein at -9°C. That
was a wonderful present for the junior - Frank Schoenleber, who had
the opportunity to celebrate his birthday with 15 harvest helpers in
the vineyard at the sunrise - due to the circumstances, not with a glass
of sparkling wine, but with Glühwein.

Gold
for twenty years of constantly convincing work
Now it is official. Again for the 2001 collection, we get a Staatsehrenpreis
(State Honour Prize) as the best winery in the Nahe region at the Landesweinpraemierung.
As this is the 10th time that we have been awarded with that prize within
20 years (1983, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002),
it is a gold prize this time! Great honour which is given exclusively
to the very best wineries in Germany. Another motivation for us to keep
this level in the future!

2002
in the cellar, 2001 listed
The grape harvest in 2002 was completed for the moment around two weeks
ago. Even though the weather in October was not quite up to our expectations,
we can still be highly satisfied with the quality of this year's harvest
again. As in last year, even the standard grapes are of high quality.
The obvious presence of acidity without being importunate suggests that
we can expect a classic riesling vintage.
The 2002 harvest has just been in the cellar, when the last wines from
2001 were listed awaiting your judgement. Something to look forward
to!
At this point, let me tell you my wish: please cross your fingers for
us! So that it becomes very cold soon! We are waiting for the eiswein!!!

High
performance at wine auction
At the wine auction of VDP Nahe-Ahr which took place in Bad Kreuznach
today, our Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 2001 reached
the hammer price of 44 EUR / 0,5 l (incl. VAT).
Even greater attention was paid to our most favourite child from 2000
which was offered for bids at an estimated price of 100 EUR. This was
the Monzinger Frühlinsplätzchen Riesling Eiswein Goldkapsel 2000, which
repeatedly gained top rankings: 95 point in "Wine Spectator", 98 points
in "Gault Millau" and even 99 points in Stuart Pigott's book "The great
white wines of Germany". The gavel fell at the sensational price of
464 EUR - the highest price ever obtained for a young wine of Emrich-Schoenleber!!!

3rd
place at "Best of Riesling"
"Best of Riesling" is probably the largest riesling wine competition
worldwide, at which 1744 riesling wines from all over the world were
entered for tasting in five categories this year. At the winners' presentation
ceremony, which took place at the representative office of Rheinland-Pfalz
in Berlin today, our Halenberg Riesling Auslese 2001 won the outstanding
third place in the category IV (wines with residual sugar of more than
15g)! Competition summary: even though there were many wines from all
over the world and the jury was international, all the prizes, apart
from one exeption, were given to German wineries. This again shows that
the German riesling occupies clearly the top position worldwide!

2001
vintage bottled -
Now all the 2001 wines are bottled. But they will be on sale later as
some of them still need to mature in the bottles. Already on sale: Rivaner
trocken (#5), as well as Weißburgunder trocken (#11).
After several years of waiting, we could finally harvest a Riesling
Auslese trocken in our top vineyard Halenberg in 2001. Although this
wine will be on sale in autumn, we can already tell you now that it
is going to be the greatest dry wine we have ever had. Be ready for
it!

Wine
Spectator: the best German wine from 2000
Another great acknowledgement for our Eiswein 2000. This time the American
wine magazine "Wine Spectator" selected the eiswein as the best German
wine of the vintage 2000 with 95 points.
The "greater" of the two eisweins will be available for bids at the
auction on 29 Sepbember 2002 (see "Events") in Bad Kreuznach. Anyone
interested please contact us.
